USB storage that works on Linux, OS X and Windows

USB storage that works on Linux, OS X and Windows

What is the best, easiest choice of filesystem format for removable USB storage that "works" under Windows, OS X and Linux?
Current and recent editions of each OS
Read and write support on each OS
Supports large volumes >= 1TB
Preferably no sticky issues like restricting the size of a single file
Minimum device driver installation burden
I have a fairly large volume that was NTFS-formatted out of the box, which is read-only on Mac but works for me on the other two. Ideally I could just format with a particular filesystem and it would "just work", but a simple driver install process would be OK too.
