Dayton Parts Simplifies Data Distribution with Automated File Transfer Product

Omaha, NE (Vocus) October 27, 2010

As a manufacturer and distributor of thousands of parts for light and heavy-duty trucks, Dayton Parts primary focus is on their customers. They know that sending personalized price sheets to their valued customers on a regular basis is good business. This detailed personal attention continues to produce new and loyal customers. As the customer base grew, the amount of effort to create and distribute the personalized price sheets began to affect productivity. Dayton Parts realized they needed to automate their file transfer process, so they started the search for an application that would streamline the data distribution process.

Steering in a New Direction - Automating File Transfers

IBM i (iSeries) servers handle inventory and processing at Dayton Parts. However, converting the inventory lists and pricing information from DB2 into the required Excel spreadsheets is not a normal server function. Instead, staff manually extracted the data and pasted it into email, which required close to 100 hours from several staff members over a 6-day period.

Dayton Parts knew they had to improve the efficiency and speed of this critical process. In order to reduce staff time, they would need full automation of the data translation from DB2 to Excel and the distribution of the price sheets via email. Marketing and IT worked together to find a solution that would accomplish these goals. There were only a handful of solutions on the market that would install natively to IBM i (iSeries) servers. Most were complicated to use or didn?t support the automation Dayton Parts required. Dayton Parts was excited to evaluate a browser-based, automated file transfer solution ? GoAnywhere Director from Linoma Software.

A Smooth Ride - SQL Query and XML Translation

Dayton Parts had seen a demonstration using the SQL query options and the data mapping options inside GoAnywhere Director, but were interested to see if it would work in their unique environment. The implementation went smoothly and through the GoAnywhere Director browser-interface, a process was developed that queried the database, performed the calculations, created the Excel file and attached one or more price sheets per email.

?Now with GoAnywhere Director the system can run the complete automated file transfer process in just 3 hours, versus 6 days!? exclaimed Rusty Foust ? Project Manager at Dayton Parts. ?We can also run a single ad-hoc customized price sheet at any time and it only takes a minute.?

The time savings alone was instant gratification for Dayton Parts. The ease of use and functionality within Linoma?s solution would more than meet their needs. GoAnywhere Director was a great fit as it ran natively on the IBM i, easily communicated with other platforms, required little user interaction, and performed very efficiently. Another key factor in their decision was the helpful support staff at Linoma Software who was able to quickly answer questions and provide assistance when needed.

Marketing Success

Distributing personalized price sheets to their customers is critical to Dayton Parts marketing strategy and overall success in the competitive after-market for undercarriage parts for light and heavy-duty trucks. Dayton Parts has a new advantage with the powerful automated processing and file transfers performed by GoAnywhere Director.

Looking back on the project that started earlier this year, Rusty Foust concludes, ?GoAnywhere Director is intuitive, well documented, extremely versatile and well supported. It?s a solid solution that dramatically improved and enhanced a critical process for us. It?s hard to believe how we used to send out the personalized price sheets when GoAnywhere Director makes it look so simple.?

Sims Recycling Solutions Acknowledges Data Privacy Day to Raise Awareness about Data Security When Disposing of Electronics

(PRWEB UK) 24 January 2012

Sims Recycling Solutions, the global leader in electronics reuse and recycling, acknowledges and supports Data Privacy Day, which will be observed on Saturday, January 28, and in the surrounding weeks. Data Privacy Day is an international celebration that strives to promote awareness and education about privacy and best privacy practices.

The need to protect personal information is important not only when surfing the Internet or using a social network, but also when your cell phone, tablet, computer or other electronic device no longer works and you need to dispose of the item.

?Just five months after the first Apple iPad?s entered the market, Sims Recycling Solutions accepted one for recycling at a community electronics recycling collection event. This is an example of how soon after purchasing these devices individuals are replacing or upgrading their electronics,? stated Steve Skurnac, President, Sims Recycling Solutions, Americas. ?What many people might not be aware of is the amount of personal information that is stored in these electronics, including tablets, cell phones, laptops, and even printers and scanners. Not properly disposing of these devices can inadvertently expose your personal, financial or employment data and put you at risk of identity theft.?

With advancements in technology, there are now more ways than ever to collect, store, use and share personal information. Businesses need to be aware of the current state and federal regulations that they must follow to protect the privacy of customers and consumers need to know how much of their data is accessible and how they can protect themselves and their personal information.

Atrion First to Support REACH Annex II Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

Montreal, Canada (PRWEB) July 14, 2010

Atrion International today announced its support of REACH Annex II Safety Data Sheets (SDS) with the release of its Intelligent Authoring (IA) version 4.2. The new version enables the creation of Extended Safety Data Sheet, supplemented with translated Exposure Scenarios in all European languages and SDS with the new required formats and content to support the Classification, Labeling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation.

?Atrion?s swift response to REACH Annex II, a massive new amendment which was published just over a month ago, validates Atrion?s ability to meet the ever changing global compliance requirements,? said Mrs. Liv Marthe F?llesdal, SDS Coordinator Europe and REACH Core Team Member at Dynea. ?As the initial REACH deadline approaches, we are pleased to be working with our trusted partner Atrion to automate the creation of Safety Data Sheets in accordance with the most recent legislation.?

REACH Annex II (Commission Regulation No. 453/2010 amending Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006) outlines new details for compliance with regulations specifying format and content of SDS in Europe and the requirements for manufacturers to create Extended Safety Data Sheets.

?With less than six months to go before the initial REACH deadline on December 1, 2010, manufactures are under tremendous pressure to comply with the new requirements for safety data sheets,? said Frank Arcadi, Vice President of Product Strategy and Direction at Atrion. ?We understand that businesses have little time to dedicate to the creation of the overwhelming amount of documentation required to keep in line with the unpredictable global regulations. Our comprehensive Product Compliance solution provides companies the tools to accelerate their efforts to meet these deadlines.?

Atrion?s new version of Intelligent Authoring supports the creation and management of Exposure Scenarios based-on ECHA/CEFIC guidelines, and this leveraging translated EuPhraC ES phrases (version 1.0). Exposure Scenarios combine information on measures to take to control risks associated with activities performed with chemicals. In order for this critical information to be understandable and applicable by downstream users, Atrion provides the ability for these exposure scenarios to be translated in a standard format in all European languages. This enables companies to meet REACH?s requirement that all registered substances have Safety Data Sheets annexed with Exposure Scenarios.

In addition, REACH Annex II introduces format and content requirements for the Classification, Labeling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation, providing substances manufactures a new SDS template to reclassify and communicate hazards under a new classification scheme. Atrion?s IA 4.2 allows for the creation of SDS according to the new CLP Regulation for substances and mixtures, providing manufactures tools to manage these complex new compliance processes.

IA 4.2 also enables the creation of Chinese SDS in line with GB 13690-2009 on classification and hazard communication and GB 15258-2009 on labeling. Both standards consist in the UN GHS implementation in China. With this addition, IA provides global companies the ability to be ?ready to comply? as China, one of the world?s largest markets, completes its regulation implementation plan.

Intelligent Authoring

Designed to meet the demanding compliance needs of companies in the formula-based process industry, Atrion?s Intelligent Authoring application automates the creation of globally compliant and multi-lingual Material Safety Data Sheets MSDS / SDS, labels and hazard summary sheets as well as documents related to transportation, inventory reports and more. Intelligent Authoring stores and manages substance and preparation information. It leverages the Intelligent Authoring (IA) DataLink and Transport DataLink update processes to load regulatory and chemical data for each product or substance. Once information is loaded, Atrion?s Compliance Engine analyzes products and automatically generates compliant documents that include important regulatory information.
